Thoughts & Musings of a Tree Lover

Here at Cape Town Tree Felling we emphasize the importance of protecting trees. One of our favorite trees is the beautiful and highly useful coconut palm. Although there are ancient fossils that depict the presence of coconuts in New Zealand and South America in prehistoric times, the oldest of them all was discovered in the Ganges delta, South Asia. As many documented accounts continue debating on the conditions in which the fruit was found in different areas of the world at given times, most come to the conclusion that it must be as a result of being carried across by humans who were seafaring explorers.

Coconut trees grow tall and they have reed-shaped leaves which rustle whenever wind blows on them. The proliferation of these trees along the sandy coastal regions can be mainly attributed to their light nature and fibrous husk which are essential attributes that allow them to drift in the ocean and become deposited on the shores where they grow.

Nowadays, coconuts are found in most parts of the world but they are most dominant along coastlines in Philipines, Malaysia, Florida, Hawaii and the Polynesian islands. Virtually all parts of the coconut tree have multiple critical applications hence it has attained the tag “tree of life” in South Asia. It can be used as fuel, wood source and as a raw material for things such as home décor, ropes, mats and handicrafts. There are also infinite culinary uses of the milk meat, sugar, coconut water and oil found in the coconut fruit.
